Take a Deep Breath!

Sometimes, as a busy mom, it feels like life never slows down!  What I’ve realized, though, is that most of the time I have a choice about that.  I can choose to slow down and enjoy each moment or I can choose to race through the day.  Busy-ness is a state of mind. This week on our membership call, Kristi is talking about self-care–how we take care of ourselves to make sure we stay charged up–so I thought I’d take a few minutes and share some of the ways I incorporate self-care into my life.

One thing that really helps me to stay centered and peaceful throughout my day is to take a walk by myself in the morning.  I live in a really beautiful old neighborhood, and in the mornings, when it’s quiet, I can almost imagine what it would have been like to walk these streets 100 years ago. That 20-30 minutes of the morning that I spend thanking God for the blessings in my life and enjoying the quiet really help me to recharge and focus my energy for the day.

Getting outside in nature is great, but my favorite activity ever since I was a little girl has been reading.  At the end of the day, after I’ve made my calls and finished my work, I love to reward myself with a good book.  I love to read for fun, and getting into a good book is better than going to the movies for me!
